WHAT A DAY TO RACE DRAGON BOATS!
The weather on race day was "iffy". The winds were picking up throughout the event and calling off the final races was being considered.
WOMEN'S
The woman had a strong boat and competed consistently with their best efforts. Beaten only by the BLACKHEATS boat in all three heats
WINNING THE SENIOR'S 300M SILVER MEDAL
MIXED
The Mixed boat paddled against some fierce competition consistently pulling the outside lane, (#5). The WARRIORS boat always had to paddle through westerly (post) waves that never stopped crashing over the gunnel. Lee, our steersman, had to actually perform light tacks to keep the boat in the 300M lane.
In the 1st. heat of the 300M the WARRIOR boat was rammed by another team that couldn't hold their lane. This resulted in the heat being thrown out.
By constantly pulling the outside lane, the WARRIOR's boat was constantly acting as a breaker for the rest of the field. The team felt it lost multiple tenths of a second racing the course.
In the final medal round race, the WARRIORS encountered the absolute worst conditions of the entire day as the weather was deteriorating rapidly. But race on they did!
WINNING THE SENIOR MIXED 300M BRONZE MEDAL
MEN'S
The WARRIOR'S Men's boat had a good day as well. Half of the men were also on the Senior Mixed Boat in the final race - AND - no more that 5 minutes after getting their boat to the dock and unloading, we we were called to report to the marshaling for the Senior Men's final race. The men delivered and walked away with:
THE SENIOR MEN'S 300M GOLD MEDAL
